Active Protection: The Vapor‑Phase Corrosion Inhibition Principle of Anti‑Rust Films

Rust‑preventive film is a functional packaging film for metal products that continuously releases rust‑inhibiting molecules within the package, forming a protective layer on the metal surface.

Working principle

The core technology of anti‑rust film is vapor‑phase corrosion inhibition. During production, a volatile rust inhibitor is incorporated into the film; once the package is sealed, the inhibitor gradually sublimates or evaporates, releasing anti‑rust gas molecules. These gas molecules diffuse to every corner of the metal surface—including crevices and pores—reaching areas that are difficult to fully cover with conventional packaging. They then adsorb onto the metal surface, forming a monolayer protective barrier that prevents corrosive agents such as moisture and oxygen from coming into direct contact with the metal.

Applicable Metal Range

Rust‑preventive films can be used for rust‑proof packaging of a wide range of metallic materials, including iron, steel, aluminum, copper, and galvanized components. However, it should be noted that different types of vapor‑phase rust‑preventive films may vary in their suitability for specific metals; some formulations may cause discoloration on certain metals. When selecting a film, it is advisable to verify compatibility based on the type of metal being packaged.

Protective Features

Compared with traditional oil‑based rust prevention, rust‑preventive film is a dry‑type method that eliminates the need to apply rust‑inhibiting oil during packaging. After removal, the parts can be used or further processed directly, without requiring any cleaning or degreasing steps. Moreover, the rust‑inhibiting gas can penetrate deep into internal cavities and blind holes of complex‑shaped components, providing comprehensive protection.

Rust‑preventive film is suitable for intermediate rust protection during the storage and transportation of metal parts, as well as for finished‑product packaging.
