Pipeline Protection: Principles and Applications of VCI Rust-Preventive Tubing
Release Date:
Apr 29,2025
Source:
During the storage and transportation of metal pipes and hollow components, internal wall corrosion is often an issue that is easily overlooked.
As a specialized product designed for internal pipeline protection, VCI anti-corrosion tubing offers an appropriate solution for such applications.
Working principle
VCI anti‑rust tubing is internally filled with a vapor‑phase corrosion inhibitor. In a sealed environment, the inhibitor slowly releases gaseous molecules that diffuse along the tube’s inner lumen, reaching crevices, threads, and other areas that the end caps cannot fully cover. These gases form a molecular‑level protective layer on the metal surface, effectively preventing moisture and oxygen from contacting the pipe wall.
Usage instructions
Place the anti‑rust tube axially within the pipe’s internal cavity, sealing both ends to maintain a hermetic environment, thereby providing protection to the inner wall of the pipe. This physical isolation method prevents continuous convective exchange between the gaseous anti‑rust agent and the external air, effectively extending the residence time of the protective gas. When needed, simply open the end caps to remove the anti‑rust tube; the protective film will dissipate naturally within a short period, allowing the pipe to be put into service or proceed directly to the next processing step without additional cleaning. For longer pipes, an anti‑rust bag can be used for comprehensive sealed packaging, with heat‑sealing at the closure to create a complete gaseous protective barrier.
Applicable Pipe Material Types
VCI anti‑rust tubing is suitable for various pipe and fitting materials, including ferrous and non‑ferrous metals. In addition to round pipes, it can also accommodate square, rectangular, and specially shaped tubes, as well as hollow components with threads or fittings.
Storage and Usage Tips
VCI anti‑rust tubes should be stored in a cool, dry place, and the original packaging must remain intact. Before use, ensure that the metal surfaces inside the tube are clean and dry; oil, moisture, or rust can compromise the effectiveness of the protective film. After sealing, keep both ends tightly closed, and periodically inspect the seals to prevent gas buildup and a reduction in concentration.
Other updates
Combining artificial intelligence with big data for corrosion simulation and analysis, providing customers with comprehensive solutions.
Located in Xiagezhuang Town, Laixi, the project has a total investment of RMB 50 million and is expected to begin production in September 2025, adding RMB 20 million to annual output value.
Active Protection: The Vapor‑Phase Corrosion Inhibition Principle of Anti‑Rust Films
Rust‑preventive film is a functional packaging film for metal products that continuously releases rust‑inhibiting molecules within the package, forming a protective layer on the metal surface.
The rust‑preventive performance of a rust inhibitor depends not only on the product itself but is also influenced by pre‑coating surface preparation, application method, and storage conditions.
Long-Lasting Barrier: Surface Anti-Corrosion Technologies for Metal Pipelines
In addition to using vapor-phase corrosion‑inhibiting products for internal protection, surface treatment of the pipe substrate itself represents another approach to achieving corrosion resistance.

From Masterbatch to Film: Processing and Applications of Anti-Rust Masterbatches
Anti-rust masterbatches must be processed via blown-film extrusion to impart anti-rust functionality to plastic film products. From the addition ratio to the processing conditions, control during production directly affects the film’s anti-rust performance.
In the field of functional masterbatches, rust‑inhibiting masterbatches serve as a foundational raw material for producing vapor‑phase corrosion‑inhibiting films. By pre‑concentrating rust‑inhibiting functionality within plastic pellets, they offer a convenient solution for imparting anti‑corrosion properties to plastic products.
